Passing the Torch: New Releases for Front Mission Alternative and Front Mission 2

Hello, Front Mission fans!

The OG team have pretty much retired, but we still keep an eye on what’s out there. Recently, a couple of highly motivated and talented fans reached out to us with incredible updates regarding two major projects: an English translation release for Front Mission Alternative and an extension patch for Front Mission 2.

We are excited to share their work and formally give our blessing to these fan-driven releases!

Front Mission Alternative — English Release & Translation Tool

The “Front Mission Alternative English Release”, bringing a long-awaited full English translation to the 1997 PlayStation spin-off.

Front Mission Alternative was always a unique entry in the series—shifting the tactical SRPG mechanics into real-time strategy gameplay set during the First Huffman War in 2034. Because of its dense military terminology, non-standard gameplay structure, and technical hurdles, it remained untranslated for decades.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of these fan developers, players can now experience the origins of the Wanzer era in full English!

🛠️ Extra: Translation Studio Tool

As a fantastic extra bit, during the development of this translation, the author built a custom tool that allows anyone to insert any Latin character text into the game, making it possible to create complete localized translations in other languages!

Front Mission 2 — Translation Extension Patch

As many of you know, our original 2013 patch for Front Mission 2 translated the core game, but technical encryption issues left around 30% of the remaining script uninserted (which we previously provided via a supplementary script).

These dedicated community members have picked up where we left off—cracking the remaining hurdles to integrate missing text and polish the experience further into a seamless in-game extension patch!

A Note from the Original Team

When we started the Front Mission Translation Project back in 2007, our primary goal was to ensure non-Japanese speaking fans could appreciate the deep narrative, political intrigue, and detailed mecha warfare of the Front Mission universe.

Seeing passionate community members step up to polish our legacy work and tackle titles that were previously out of reach is incredibly rewarding. We gladly grant full permission and encourage everyone in the community to check out these updates, test the patches, and give feedback to the new authors!

Thank you all for keeping the Wanzer engine running after all these years.
