Q1. Why was Front Mission 5: Scars of the War never localized in English by Square Enix Co., Ltd.?

Please read the following article for more details.

Q2. I want to patch my Front Mission 5: Scars of the War copy using ImageDiff and the patch file - where are the instructions located?

They cannot be found on this website. Please ask on the GameFAQs forums about this. For legal reasons, we cannot provide any help on this topic.

Q3. What do I need to play Front Mission 5 on my non-Japanese PS2?

There are several methods that can be found via Google but the most common method is via Swap Magic. Another option is to buy a Japanese PS2 from the secondhand market or an auction website.

Q4. Will the patch work with the "Ultimate Hits" edition of Front Mission 5: Scars of the War?

Currently no but this may change in the future. The "Ultimate Hits" edition box cover looks like this and the regular edition looks like this.

Original version has boot file SLPM_662.05 and was released on 2005-12-29. The Ultimate Hits Version has boot file SLPM_664.21 and was released on 2006-10-05. (Source: psx-scene.com forums)

Q5. Can I help distribute any patches, or patched copies of the games, through BitTorrent or other means?

The team highly discourages this. This is essentially plagiarism and it's very disrespectful to the people who dedicate their free time into working on the project. The Project Manager has made it very clear that any attempts at this will be met with a stricter control over the releases of future patches. That means that future patches may not be available through the Downloads section should any form of patch distributing or plagiarism be found online. Respect the team, don't attempt to distribute patches outside of frontmission.info and all will be well.

With respect to patched copies of the games...you shouldn't be doing this in the first place! If you choose to engage in such activities, we will not release any future patches of our Front Mission projects! Or we will release them...but these patches will use a patching method similar to the one used by the Fatal Frame IV translation team. Basically, patches will only work on legit, retail copies of the video games! Do yourself and every fan a favor, and refrain from engaging in such acts.

Q6. Can I apply a later patch to my already patched copy of Front Mission 5: Scars of the War?

No, you need to use a new image without anything applied. Each patch accumulates all translated materials from previous patches.

Q7. Will a game save from an earlier patch work with a later one for Front Mission 5: Scars of the War?

Yes, your game save will be unaffected.

Q8. When you release the Front Mission 2 patches, will I need the original edition or the History/Ultimate Hits one?

You can use either edition with the upcoming Front Mission 2 patches. The team is currently improving their conversion tool that transfers data between the versions, from the original to History to Ultimate Hits and vice versa. For playability reasons, we highly recommend the History and Ultimate Hits editions.

Q9. When you release the Front Mission Alternative patches, will I need the original edition or the Ultimate Hits one?

Since there was no publicized changes to the Ultimate Hits version of Front Mission Alternative, the patch should in theory apply to both editions.
